Largest in population. Yes, "most populous" would have been a better choice of words. But then half the listeners would think the announcer had said "most popular," and that'd be a whole 'nother can of worms.

Well, yeah, that's what I figured they meant, but.... When you say 'largest state', I pretty much guarantee that's not the definition people think of immediately.

I believe that CA is larger land wise than Texas, it just looks bigger. I think TX is the 3rd largest state. (you'd think having TX history my whole life I would remember this stuff) But, I haven't had TX history in 6 years...but yes, CA is bigger landwise. *shrug* I'm a true texan, born and raised, and I'm ok with that...TX is still better. =o) lol. j/k. Just had to throw that in.

Nah. Texas is larger.

261,914 sq miles compared to CA's 155,973.

Alaska's acourse, first. By a long shot. 570,374 sq miles. ;)
