The computer is dead. Long live the computer.

Heya. Brief update from the comp lab to notify all and sundry that the nice ol' computer that I got for my eighteenth birthday a good 6+ years ago has finally decided to kick the bucket. (Which is OH so lovely, because I have a freakin' fic on there that I haven't finished. Grumble. At least I have a good chunk of it saved elsewhere, but I digress...)

Now, the timing of the ol' comp's decision to kick the bucket coulda been a bit more fortuitous, as I was planning on buying a new one in a month anyway, I just wanted to wait until I had *all* the money for it, but, hey... Looking at it, I'm actually gonna get the computer I was planning on getting for a good 200 or so bucks cheaper than when I originally looked, so... timing is actually rather fortuitous after all. I just had to move a bit sooner than I had expected.

So, the long and short of this is...

Don't expect to see me around for a couple of days. On account of I have a Very Dead Computer, and, alas, they have yet to perfect Instantaneous Shipping on new systems.

Such is life.

But, on the bright side... Iiiii'm gonna haaave a shiiiny new coooompie.

Ahem. Toodles!

PS. I have suddenly come to the realization that I have now lost e-mails I've had on there since '99. MAN, that sucks. Seriously.

i know you prolly won't get this til....whenever.... but, if your hard drive isn't what failed, you can still save your stuffits from it. all you gotta do is slave the old hd to the new hd when your new comp comes in. if you need any help with that, let me know and i'll try to walk you through it over the phone or summat. i can call you, no probs, since my long distance costs me the same as my local minutes.

let me know.

i think when my homebuilt finally kills itself, i shall write a eulogie (and it shall be called 'Eulogie for Miss Scully', as miss scully is her name) to it on the side panelling of her beautifully cat-beaten box.

i am surprised she has survived this long, what with the flying leaps she has taken. r.i.p rahvin, live long saoirse.

Which part of it kicked the bucket? They can do recovery of information in some cases...

R.I.P. Erin's Compie

[identity profile] jdogggy.livejournal.com 2005-02-07 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know Compie quite as well as I should have, I suppose. Especially considering I lived right next door. I would come visit every now and then. There were good times, like when she would let me print out pr0n pics when Erin wasn't around and when my own Compie wouldn't let me do it. And there were bad times, like when I couldn't get said pr0n pics to print on that one either. Yes, Erin's Compie has seen a lot in its years. Consider this, she was born around the day Michael Jordan retired for the second time. o.O She's seen Clinton get impeached, trade centers get bombed, and the Cubs getting a pitching staff. I will miss Erin's Compie. But alas, we must not see this day as a coming to an end, but rather as the dawn of a new beginning. For the loss of one truly blesses us with the arrival of another. I will wait in vigilant anticipation of Erin's new baby, as well as keep a large place for Compie 1 in my heart to hold forever.

We're gonna miss you Comp,
Justin

It's in a better place, Erin. Or rather, it's in the same place, just with a big smoking hole in it.
